Interest in Arkansas Crime Bill Gains in Popularity and Public Support

Arkansas is losing $100,000,000.00 a year to criminals who steal and use deadly force on some of their crime victims! In 1995 Representative Butch Calhoun tried to stop property theft in Arkansas by bringing the Texas Crime Bill to our state. This is a proven crime bill that has worked well in the State of Texas. Representative Calhoun got the bill passed 85 to 15 in the House, but a Senate Judiciary Committee led by Senator Mike Beebe killed the Arkansas Crime Bill.

In 1997, the Committee for the U. S. Constitution brought the bill back and Representative Ted Thomas was to carry the bill in the House, and Senator Peggy Jefferies and Senator Bozman were ready to carry it in the Senate.

On March 15, 1997, Senator Mike Beebe led other "soft on crime" liberals on a Senate Judiciary Committee, and they killed the Arkansas Crime Bill a second time. Helping Senator Beebe kill the crime bill were Senators Wayne Dowd, Steve Bell, Mike Everett and Tom Kennedy. Governor Mike Huckabee was ready to help put the crime bill on Arkansas law books, but Senator Beebe never gave him a chance to.

The Committee for the U.S. Constitution will bring the Arkansas Crime Bill back in 1999. Governor Huchabee is tough on crime and will help put the Crime Bill on the Arkansas law books. Arkansas citizens who are fed up with property theft in our state are ready to vote for those who are not soft on crime so Arkansas citizens can help stop the theft of their property like Texas citizens can. Arkansas doesn't need soft on crime legislators.
